NASCAR Set to Race at Chicagoland in 2027 Instead of Chicago Street Race

by

NASCAR has opted to return to the Chicagoland Speedway for the second straight year in 2027. The news is the latest development in the ongoing formation of the 2027 schedule.

For about a month, rumors swirled that NASCAR was in talks of possibly opting out of Chicagoland and returning to running the Chicago street race, which was last on the Cup schedule in 2024.

With Tuesday’s news, it is clear that NASCAR has gone in the direction of sticking with Chicagoland Speedway for the Chicago market.

Chicagoland in, Chicago street race out

Jordan Bianchi, NASCAR reporter for The Athletic, broke the news regarding the return of Chicagoland Speedway for a second consecutive year in 2027.

“NASCAR makes the below news official. Chicagoland Speedway will have a Cup Series race in 2027,” Bianchi wrote via X.

Despite rumblings that the Chicago street race would return and replace Chicagoland’s date, those plans never materialized. NASCAR on FOX reporter Bob Pockrass brought to light Chicagoland’s 2027 date via X, which is set to be on June 27.

The date indicated to Pockrass that NASCAR would not be returning to the Chicago street course in 2027.

Chicagoland Speedway returned in 2026 for its first NASCAR-sanctioned event since 2019. The NASCAR Cup Series started racing at the 1.5-mile track in Joliet, Illinois.

Chase Briscoe earned the win in last month’s eero 400 at Chicagoland Speedway, outlasting Joe Gibbs Racing teammate Christopher Bell for his first victory of the 2026 season and his sixth Cup Series career win.

Chicagoland was not the only track to have its 2027 dates revealed on Tuesday. Homestead-Miami Speedway announced its plans to return as the site of NASCAR championship weekend in 2027 from Nov. 12-14.

After a hiatus of not being the season finale race from 2020-2025, Homestead returns as the final race of the Cup Series campaign this year.

Full NASCAR Cup Series schedule nearly in place

As the 2026 Cup Series season approaches the start of the 10-race Chase, the 2027 schedule is falling into place.

Of the 36 points-paying races in the Cup Series season, 27 of the races have been announced. Watkins Glen is slated to return as a Chase race in 2027, although the specific date for the race has not been finalized.

Among the key changes is North Wilkesboro Speedway will return to host the NASCAR All-Star Race. The North Carolina short track got its first points-paying race in 30 years this season, but will return as the site for the All-Star exhibition.

After hosting this year’s All-Star event, Dover Motor Speedway returns to the schedule as a points-paying race. Daytona International Speedway will once again be the site for the Wheatley Vodka Clash exhibition, the first time on the oval surface since 2021.
