The 2026 NBA Finals will include a new visual detail tied to a major national milestone, with every player on the court set to wear a USA 250 patch on their jersey during the championship series between the New York Knicks and San Antonio Spurs.
The commemorative patch recognizes the United States’ upcoming 250th anniversary and will appear on jerseys throughout the Finals. According to the plan, patches will be removed after every game, with select game-used versions later embedded into ultra-rare trading cards, adding a collectible layer to an already historic championship matchup.
The timing places the tribute on one of basketball’s biggest stages. Game 1 of the NBA Finals is scheduled for June 3 in San Antonio, with the Spurs holding home-court advantage after finishing the regular season at 62-20, the second-best record in the Western Conference and winners of the Southwest Division.
San Antonio enters the series after surviving a seven-game Western Conference Finals against the Oklahoma City Thunder. The Spurs closed the matchup with a 111-103 road win in Game 7, earning a Finals berth behind a postseason run led by Victor Wembanyama and rookie guard Stephon Castle.
Wembanyama has averaged 23.2 points, 10.8 rebounds and 3.5 blocks across 17 playoff games, giving San Antonio a defensive anchor and interior scoring presence. Castle has added 19.2 points and 6.7 assists per game, helping stabilize the backcourt alongside De’Aaron Fox, who is averaging 16.4 points and 5.9 assists during the postseason.
New York arrives after sweeping the Cleveland Cavaliers in the Eastern Conference Finals. The Knicks have leaned heavily on the production of Jalen Brunson, whose 26.9 playoff points and 6.6 assists per game have powered the offense through three rounds.
The Eastern Conference champion has also received balanced contributions around Brunson. OG Anunoby has averaged 19.7 points while shooting efficiently, and Karl-Anthony Towns has contributed 16.9 points, 10.6 rebounds and 5.9 assists per contest.
The teams split their two regular-season meetings, creating another layer of intrigue entering the Finals. San Antonio edged New York 134-132 at home, while the Knicks answered with a 114-89 victory in the rematch.
