Oregon’s Autzen Stadium in the top of college football stadiums

by

Since Dan Lanning took over as head coach of the Oregon Ducks in 2022, he’s led the Ducks to a record of 25-2 at home. Lanning has solidified himself not only as one of the top coaches in college football, but one of the top recruiters. As a result, Oregon has been tremendous with him in the comforts of Autzen Stadium in Eugene.

But it’s not just Lanning’s excellence that has led to 25 wins versus just two losses, coming to Washington in 2022 and Indiana in 2025. It’s the home-field advantage that Ducks fans bring to Autzen Stadium, which has become known as one of the top stadiums in all of college football.

But just where does it fall in a ranking of the best stadiums in the country? According to USA TODAY, Autzen Stadium is the fifth-best stadium, falling behind only LSU’s Tiger Stadium, Ohio State’s Ohio Stadium, Penn State’s Beaver Stadium and Texas A&M’s Kyle Field.

“Size doesn’t matter in the case of Autzen Stadium,” four USA TODAY writers wrote. “While only boasting a capacity of 54,000, Oregon’s home field is one of the classes of the Big Ten and toughest places to play. The Ducks have lost just twice at home since hiring Dan Lanning in 2022. This stretch rivals the most dominant run of play at home in program history, a 21-game winning streak under former Chip Kelly that ended with a loss to Southern California in 2011.”

While Autzen lands at No. 5 on this ranking, there’s a clear argument that it should be ranked higher based on true home-field advantage and record.

In 2021, the Ducks came out of Ohio Stadium with a 35-28 victory over the Buckeyes while beating them by one point in 2024 at home, defending their home turf while downing Ohio State on theirs. Against Penn State last year, we all know what happened: an Oregon interception put the game away in double overtime, which began the crumble of the Nittany Lions‘ program a season ago.

While Tiger Stadium and Kyle Field have Autzen Stadium lapped in terms of capacity, the pound-for-pound noise of the Ducks’ stadium certainly rivals that of LSU and Texas A&M. However you put it, Autzen Stadium remains up there with the bucket list of stadiums to visit and experience in college football. Duck fans know, you won’t be disappointed.
