One of the best quarterbacks in the 2027 recruiting cycle is headed to Virginia Tech.
Peter Bourque announced his commitment to the Hokies over Georgia and Penn State on Thursday. The commitment is a major win for James Franklin, who is in his first year as the head coach in Blacksburg.

According to 247Sports Composite Rankings, Bourque ranks as the No. 82 overall prospect in the 2027 class. The site ranks him as the No. 7 running back and No. 1 player out of Massachusetts.
Bourque was the 2025 Gatorade Player of the Year in Massachusetts after leading Tabor Academy to a NEPSAC John Papa Bowl Title with a 9-0 record as a junior. He threw for 2,241 yards and 18 touchdowns, while also adding 688 rushing yards on 80 totes for 15 touchdowns.
He also participated in the Navy All-American Bowl as an underclassman, completing 3-of-4 passes for 21 yards, while rushing once for four yards.
Franklin lands first major 2027 recruiting win at Virginia Tech
Virginia Tech fans hoping for a rebirth of the program under Franklin saw the first major win of his tenure with Bourque’s commitment.

While there were a good number of former 2026 Penn State pledges that followed Franklin to Blacksburg, Bourque is the highest rated overall recruit Franklin’s been able to land.
Ahead of Bourque’s pledge, 247Sports ranked Virginia Tech’s 2027 as the 17th best in the country. McDonogh School (MD) four-star defensive lineman Joseph Buchanan was their highest rated pledge coming in as the No. 178 player in the country.
