Positive update on Mark Mitchell, who just entered the transfer portal

by

Following Friday’s court injunction granted in Louisville, Missouri Tigers forward Mark Mitchell has entered the NCAA transfer portal, according to On3’s Pete Nakos. In addition, Mitchell entered with a do-not-contact tag, which could signal the Kentucky Basketball target already knows where he wants to go.

On Thursday night, news broke that Michigan State transfer and fellow Kentucky target Jaxon Kohler decided to go home and play for BYU.

Now that Kohler is off the board, the staff has homed in on Mitchell, who spent two years at Duke before transferring to Missouri for two years. Kentucky hasn’t been able to make direct contact with Mitchell because he technically isn’t in the NCAA transfer portal yet, but that changed with Friday’s court ruling.

Prior to Kohler coming off the board, On3’s Joe Tipton had an interview Thursday with KSR’s Jack Pilgrim, where they discussed Mitchell’s recruitment.

Tipton said he had “not heard any other school mentioned” for Mitchell other than Missouri and Kentucky. And the Tigers have a full roster currently, making things even tougher for the Tigers to overcome the Wildcats.

“I do think Missouri is exploring the potential of him coming back to CoMo and what that would look like; as their roster is currently full, they would have to move some things around,” said Tipton.

Tipton noted that he believes “it would basically be a decision between going back to Mizzou or Kentucky,” then added, “The action that has been taken on the Mitchell side, going to court to enter the transfer portal, shows you how interested they are in a potential school like Kentucky.”

The fact that Mitchell is already in the portal is great news itself, as he wouldn’t need to do that if he was gonna just stay at Missouri.

So if this recruitment is truly down to Kentucky and Missouri, you really have to like the Wildcats’ chances.
