Pan Pacific Championships: Meet Record in Men’s 400 Medley Relay Caps Week for USA
The final event of the 2026 Pan Pacific Championships was the men’s 400 medley relay.
It has been a stellar meet for many of the competitors in individual stroke races, but the excitement comes when they all come together for the final relay.
Each country looked to finish the meet on a high note.
The backstroke leg kicked off the relay and Canada’s Blake Tierney opened with a narrow lead over Will Modglin. They finished together.
Van Mathias pushed the U.S. ahead on the breaststroke leg as Japan pulled close.
Mathias split a 57.72, giving Luca Urlando a lead. Urlando started with a small lead and finished with a small lead, giving way to Alexy.
Alexy turned first in the freestyle and as Harrison Turner began to close. Alexy saw him and pulled ahead for the win in a new Pan Pacific record at 3:29.06.
Alexy split a 46.97 on the anchor leg.
Australia took the silver in 3:30.26, holding off Japan (3:30.99), which took the bronze, closing out the medals for the week in Irvine, California, with a fast medley relay as the teams closed their seasons.
Now the sights turn to next year as teams prep for the Olympic year back here in L.A.
