It appears that Miami football head coach Mario Cristobal is here to stay for the long haul.
According to On3’s Brett McMurphy, Miami has given Cristobal a long-term extension after leading the program to the College Football Playoff National Championship Game last season.

Miami won 13 games last season, which is a school record. The program beat Texas A&M, Ohio State, and Ole Miss in the CFP before losing to Indiana.

Cristobal has been the Miami head coach for the previous four seasons, compiling a 35-19 record. 23 of those 35 wins have come in the last two seasons after initially struggling in his first two seasons.
Still, he’s done a great job turning the program around after spending four seasons as Oregon‘s head coach (he also coached Oregon in the Las Vegas Bowl during the 2017 season). He finished his Oregon tenure with a 35-13 record.

Cristobal also coached Florida International for six seasons, finishing with a 27-47 record.
He has Miami ready to take another run at the national title this upcoming season, especially with wide receiver Malachi Toney returning and quarterback Darian Mensah coming over from Duke. Going off that, Miami is the odds-on favorite to win the ACC title this year, which shouldn’t surprise anyone. On paper, this is the best team in the conference.
Miami will open its 2026 campaign on Sept. 4 against Stanford. Kickoff will be at 9 p.m. ET on ESPN.
