Former NBA player Royce White has responded to reports that the WNBA considers him ineligible to play after his recent draft declaration.
White pushed back against the reported decision with a series of posts on social media.
“As a Black Trans lesbian, the rumors of denial for my multi-spirit existence are concerning,” White said.
He continued by arguing that comments questioning transgender identities can have serious consequences.
“I’d also like to remind everyone there is a Trans genocide taking place right now in America. These kind of casual comments lead to violence and our deaths.”
White also criticized the characterization of his WNBA declaration as a publicity stunt.
“To tell a Black Trans woman she is not a woman or that the Trans experience is a ‘stunt’, is transphobic, bigoted and racist.”
