Ryan Lochte Joins Missouri State as Assistant Swimming Coach
Olympic gold medalist Ryan Lochte was hired as an assistant swimming coach at Missouri State.
Missouri State swimming made the announcement on social media on Sunday, May 10, and Lochte did as well.
“After spending half of my life staring at the black line at the bottom of a pool, I figured it was time to help the next generation do the same thing,” Ryan Lochte said in his video post. “Swimming gave me an incredible career, memories and things I will cherish. But I might be more passionate about coaching than competing. … I had a pretty good swim career, but I might be an even better swim coach. I traded in my goggles for a stopwatch. … I am beyond excited to work with the athletes at Missouri State alongside coach Dave Collins in helping these swimmers both in and out of the pool, creating unforgettable memories along the way.”
Ryan Lochte is a 12-time Olympic medalist, making him the third-most decorated swimmer in Olympic history, in total medals, behind only Michael Phelps and Katie Ledecky.
His seven individual Olympic medals rank second in history in men’s swimming, tied for second among all Olympic swimmers.
Lochte’s international career that spanned four Olympics, Lochte reached the podium 12 times, with individual gold medals in the 200 backstroke in 2008 and 400 IM in 2012. Lochte also won four consecutive world titles in the 200 IM (in 2009, 2011, 2013 and 2015), and he remains the world-record holder in the race at 1:54.00.
