Shai Gilgeous-Alexander praised the San Antonio Spurs after Oklahoma City’s season came to an end with a Game 7 defeat in the Western Conference Finals, ending the Thunder’s hopes of repeating as NBA champions.
Rather than focusing on the disappointment, the league MVP highlighted the qualities that allowed San Antonio to overcome one of the NBA’s top teams and advance to the Finals.
“They’re young, talented, well-coached, play the right way, seems like they like each other,” said Gilgeous-Alexander. “They have the make-up. You don’t beat us without the make-up.”
The series further fueled what many expect to become one of the league’s premier rivalries over the coming years, with both franchises built around young stars and long-term championship ambitions.
When asked whether he would have any input regarding Oklahoma City’s offseason plans as the organization prepares for another title push, Gilgeous-Alexander made it clear that he trusts the front office completely.
“I will give zero input,” said Gilgeous-Alexander. “I will let Sam Presti, the greatest GM ever, do his job.”
The Thunder now enter a crucial summer with several roster decisions ahead.
The organization must determine how to handle team options involving Isaiah Hartenstein and Lu Dort, while also preparing for the financial impact of new long-term contracts for Jalen Williams and Chet Holmgren.
