Victor Wembanyama has taken another leap in his third NBA season, carrying that momentum into the playoffs with a commanding showing in the San Antonio Spurs’ first-round series against the Portland Trail Blazers.
His unique blend of size, skill, and versatility has even earned rare admiration from Shaquille O’Neal, who has often been critical of how modern big men play.
“I think Wemby is the first perfect big man that’s ever been created,” said O’Neal on Inside the NBA after Game 5. “He can shoot, free throws, play defense, play offense, and he’s a great team player. I’m happy for the Spurs. I’m happy for Wemby. For me, in a long time, he’s a joy to watch.
“I don’t usually enjoy the big men how they play now. But he plays so perfectly I accept the way he plays. If he wants to shoot jumpers, I’m fine with it. To me, he’s the perfect big man. As the president of the big man alliance, I don’t have to give any big men credit.”
Across his first four postseason appearances, Victor Wembanyama has averaged 21.0 points, 8.8 rebounds, 2.0 assists, and 4.0 blocks per game in limited minutes.
He has also posted an elite 31.1 PER, highlighting his impact on both ends and why he’s already seen as a game-changing talent.
