Sophie Cunningham has lived in the headlines since she joined the debate about transgender athletes in women’s sports.
However, Cunningham finally went viral for basketball reasons in the Indiana Fever‘s victory over the New York Liberty.

The Fever guard scored 12 points off the bench, including four threes, but her standout moment was on the defensive end.

Sophie Cunningham earns praise from WNBA fans after Fever win
Sophie Cunningham ran the width of the court and jumped to block Han Xu’s three-point attempt at the end of the third quarter.
Cunningham’s impressive effort raised the roof inside Gainbridge Fieldhouse and impressed head coach Stephanie White.
The Indiana Fever’s official social media accounts posted the highlight clip, and dozens of fans left comments.

“[Cunningham] seriously is a warrior and a true team player,” a fan wrote. “She understands her role, and when the team is lacking in areas, she picks them up because she can.
“That’s why she doesn’t lead in any of the top statistics. But when you watch her play, and watch her consistently, [she’s] clutch in every aspect of the game.
“That’s the word that comes to mind when I hear her name. Definitely my favorite player because of all of this.”
Another replied: “Awesome! Queen! When she is happy, it makes me and everyone else happy. Minus that lady that got blocked lol.”

A third added: “Sophie had a great game tonight! So glad she’s hitting her shots, played great defense too.”
Meanwhile, one viewer gave Cunningham the nickname “Ms Clutch” for her outstanding effort against the Liberty.
