Steve Kerr openly criticized his own performance after the Golden State Warriors finished the 2025-26 season with a disappointing 37-45 record and missed the playoffs.

Speaking publicly for the first time since agreeing to a new two-year contract extension, Kerr acknowledged that he wasn’t satisfied with the job he did as head coach.

“I know I have to be better,” he said. “I didn’t have a great coaching year.”

Despite the frustrating season, the strategist emphasized that he still enjoys coaching and remains fully committed to the Warriors organization.

“I still love what I do,” Kerr said Friday. “If I were tired and burned out, then I would not be doing this. But I love my job, I love coaching the Warriors, being in this city, being in the Bay.”

Warriors general manager Mike Dunleavy Jr. also described the season as “pretty underwhelming” after Golden State failed to reach the postseason.

Both Kerr and Dunleavy identified turnovers as one of the team’s biggest issues throughout the year and an area that must improve moving forward.

“We got a little too loose,” Kerr said. “Literally loose with the ball. But because of our age, because of our injuries, we spent a lot of time resting. So I’ve got to tighten the ship up next year.”
