In one of the biggest recruitments of the 2027 class, the Texas A&M Aggies came out on top.
On Friday afternoon, 5-star offensive tackle Mark Matthews announced that he would be committing to the Aggies, yelling out “Elko Era” after he made the announcement. Matthews chose Mike Elko and Texas A&M over the Miami Hurricanes, Georgia Bulldogs, and LSU Tigers.

Standing at 6-foot-5, 300 pounds, Matthews is rated as the No. 5 overall player in the 2027 class and the No. 1 offensive tackle. He plays high school ball in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, so getting him out of the clutches of Mario Cristobal was no small feat for Elko and Co.
With the commitment, Texas A&M’s 2027 class got even stronger than it already was, and it now ranks as the No. 1 class in the nation, moving ahead of the Oklahoma Sooners. Matthews is the second 5-star to commit to the Aggies, alongside 5-star defensive lineman Zyron Forstall, the No. 13 player in the nation.
