Texas A&M is the ‘team to beat’ for 2027 5-star cornerback

by

Texas A&M’s future cornerback room could now include 2027 five-star cornerback Joshua Dobson, who, ahead of his official visit to College Station on June 5-7, received a prediction from On3/Rivals insider Steve Wiltfong to land with the Aggies, which has been trending for the last week after fellow five-star CB John Meredith received his prediction to land with the Texas Longhorns.

Both prospects are considered elite corners with NFL futures, and while LSU has been the favorite to land Dobson since the start of the new year, after multiple visits with the Aggie coaching staff, the blue-chip defensive back could easily see the field during his freshman season, and will join what looks like one of the most talented (on paper) cornerback rooms in Texas A&M history.

While early predictions are hard to trust for some, Rivals insider Chad Simmons furthered the site’s prediction for the Aggies to land Dobson, stating that Texas A&M is currently the “team to beat” for the five-star ahead of his official visit, highlighting the program’s “consistent communication” that has trumped the other programs, including LSU, who are still in the mix.

“Texas A&M continues to stack wins on the recruiting trail, and the Aggies are the team to beat for another priority. Five-star cornerback Joshua Dobson remains one of the top targets on the board, and the Aggies have built significant momentum heading into official visit season. Multiple trips to College Station, consistent communication and a clear plan have Texas A&M in front.”

Third-year head coach Mike Elko and his staff can safely say that all 12 blue-chip commits in the 2027 class also value the program’s communication that continues in an even stronger fashion after a player commits to Texas A&M, with the best example being freshman cornerback Brandon Arrington, who chose the Aggies over Oregon last summer.

According to Rivals, Texas A&M currently leads with a 60% chance to land Dobson’s commitment, with LSU in second at 27.3%. Dobson is currently Rivals’s 9th-ranked prospect and 3rd-ranked cornerback in the 2027 cycle.
