Three-star recruit Trenton Blaylock narrows list to final eight

by

The odds of Oklahoma landing another Blaylock went up Friday.

High-school cornerback Trenton Blaylock, brother of current Sooners running back Tory Blaylock, cancelled his planned visit to Arkansas on Friday. He had the Razorbacks among his suitors but left Arkansas of his eight finalists list he published. Oklahoma joins Alabama, Tennessee, Texas, Vanderbilt, Texas Christian, LSU and Florida State among his choices.

Blaylock is a three-star recruit in the Class of 2027 who plays at Atascocita High School in Humble, Texas, the same place Tory Blaylock played when the Sooners landed him as a four-star in the Class of 2025. Oklahoma currently has the No. 1-ranked ’27 recruiting class with 20 players committed as of Saturday. Eleven of the 20 are rated as four-star prospects.

The Blaylock brothers are the son of former NFL running back Derrick Blaylock. The elder Blaylock played five seasons in the NFL, his best coming in 2004 when he ran for 539 yards and eight touchdowns.

Oklahoma’s pass defense was strong last year, finishing 32nd in FBS in yards allowed per game. Robert Spears-Jennings, a safety, is the only key player the Sooners have lost from the secondary, though, in the era of the transfer portal, it’s unclear how many will remain by the time the Class of 2027 arrives.
