Before the injury, Jalen Williams had been playing at a high level for the Oklahoma City Thunder.
After a regular season limited to 33 games, he opened the playoffs with 22 points, seven rebounds, and six assists in Game 1, then added 19 points on efficient shooting in Game 2.
“He was playing an outstanding game,” head coach Mark Daigneault said. “He was on the gas. He had great force. He was hitting shots.”
Williams, a third-team All-NBA selection last season, has dealt with multiple injuries, including playing through a torn wrist ligament during last year’s championship run before undergoing surgery, as well as missing time this season with a right hamstring issue.
Even so, Oklahoma City showed resilience without him during the regular season, compiling a 39–10 record in games he did not play.
Williams has played 4 seasons for the Thunder. He has averaged 18.0 points, 4.6 rebounds, and 4.5 assists in 248 regular-season games.
He was selected to play in 1 All-Star game, and has won 1 NBA championship.
