Tyron Woodley: Conor McGregor needs to come forward, frustrate Max Holloway

Tyron Woodley advises Conor McGregor to go right at Max Holloway.

McGregor (22-6 MMA, 10-4 UFC) returns from a five-year long layoff to run things back with Holloway (27-9 MMA, 23-9 UFC) in the UFC 329 main event on July 11 at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas (Paramount+).

McGregor won their first outing at featherweight in 2013, but the pair will now rematch at welterweight. Despite the injury layoff, McGregor is coming into the bout oozing with the same confidence he always has, which Woodley thinks could play a factor.

“If Conor comes forward, gets into Max’s head and lands some shots, then frustrates him, he has a good chance,” Woodley said in an interview with Betpack. “But Max has always had a good chance. He is tough, he loves fighting those fights, his cardio is great, his skill set is great, and he just looks like he belongs out there.”

Holloway is a moderate favorite over McGregor, and former UFC welterweight champion Woodley ultimately thinks the oddsmakers have got it right.

“I think Max is going to win,” Woodley said. “I’m not going for Conor, but if I was somebody involved in his process to get ready for this fight, I would have him train with young, hungry, spunky fighters. Conor said something about Ilia (Topuria).

“He said, ‘You train with these people that can’t even beat you, and you are not getting better.’ He said, ‘You need to put $1,000 down and say, whoever can knock me out gets $1,000.’ Basically, what he said is that you have to be in a room where somebody is pushing you. I agree with that.”
