UCLA women’s basketball is still savoring its first national championship in 48 years. It was an emotional moment for the players and coaches, and worthy of sustained celebration.

That was on display during the Oklahoma City Thunder vs. Los Angeles Clippers game on Wednesday. Before the hometown crowd, UCLA was honored. Not only that, but Lauren Betts, Gabriela Jaquez, and Charlisse Leger-Walker were able to perform their iconic dance with the Clippers Spirit, per Yahoo Sports/NBA.
Then, the players hit the floor.
Those players first performed their dance during the postgame ceremony. In all, UCLA defeated South Carolina 79-51 last Sunday.
It marked their first NCAA championship and their first as a Big Ten team. The last time the Bruins won a collegiate title was during the 1977-78 season, when women’s college basketball played under the Association for Intercollegiate Athletics for Women (AIAW).

At the time, they were led by head coach Billie Moore and star players such as Ann-Meyers Drysdale.
Altogether, Lauren Betts finished her final collegiate season averaging 17.1 points and 8.8 rebounds per game. In the final, she came away with a double-double of 14 points and 11 rebounds. Along the way, Betts captured the Most Outstanding Player award.
Jaquez averaged 13.5 points during the season and scored 21 points and grabbed 10 rebounds in the final.
Leger-Walker averaged 8.4 points and 5.6 rebounds per game. In the title game, she scored 10 points.
Cori Close has been the team’s head coach since 2011. Last year, she was named the Naismith Coach of the Year and the USBWA Coach of the Year. Plus, she won the Big Ten Coach of the Year.
