In much the same way Ronda Rousey told the world she was going to armbar her opponents, then did it nearly on command, Valter Walker is setting the UFC abuzz.
But Walker doesn’t try to take home his heavyweight opponents’ arms as souvenirs. He’s a leg man. For the fifth straight time Saturday, Walker (16-1 MMA, 5-1 UFC) finished with a leg submission when he forced Thomas Petersen (11-5 MMA, 3-4 UFC) to tap to an inventive calf slicer. Before that $100,000 bonus-winning effort at UFC Fight Night 282, he had four straight heel hooks.

Walker’s calf slicer was just the fourth in UFC history, and he joined Demian Maia as the only ones in the long history of the promotion with five straight submission wins. The rarity of it makes him the favorite for the best finish at the UFC’s return to Etihad Arena in Abu Dhabi, certainly – but he wasn’t without competition.
