The UFC is having fights at the White House.

That’s a sentence that less than one decade ago would’ve sounded nonsensical. But that’s exactly what’s happening Sunday with UFC Freedom 250 – an event on the South Lawn.

The seven-fight card on Paramount+ is touted as a celebration of the United States’ 250th anniversary, but also takes place on president Donald Trump’s 80th birthday.

While the event is being viewed through many a sporting-centric lenses, UFC assistant managing editor Matthew Wells takes a closer look at the political and cultural aspects of such a card.
