Less than two days after being diagnosed with a concussion following a hard fall in Game 2 against Portland, Victor Wembanyama appears to be moving in a positive direction.

Speaking on Inside The NBA on Wednesday night, Shams Charania of ESPN reported that Wembanyama’s symptoms have not worsened and that he was able to complete light cardio work.

The third-year standout returned to the team facility Thursday, and although he has not yet been cleared for full activity, Spurs head coach Mitch Johnson said he “looks good.”

“The update is that he is following the league’s protocol and he’s progressing and he’ll travel with the team,” Johnson said.

Wembanyama will travel with the San Antonio Spurs to Portland, but his availability for Game 3 on Friday or Game 4 on Sunday remains uncertain.

Johnson noted that a return depends on meeting specific benchmarks in the NBA’s concussion protocol and being fully symptom-free.

League rules also require clearance from an independent neurologist, meaning the final decision will not rest solely with the Spurs’ medical staff.

“Obviously, we hope he’ll be back at some point, but we’ll allow the protocol to play out, and there’s nothing more important than his health,” Johnson said.
