The Virginia Tech Hokies have landed another 2027 recruit. Merely hours after cornerback Chase Johnson picked the Hokies over offers from Georgia, Florida State, and others, three-star safety Elijah Butler became the latest to jump on board.
Butler, a 6-foot-3, 190-pound defensive back from Baltimore, Maryland, plays at the famed St. Frances Academy. He is the second player in the 2027 class from St. Frances, joining defensive lineman Alexander Taylor. True freshman cornerback Amauri Polydor is also from St. Frances. Polydor had an excellent spring after enrolling in January and is expected to play as a freshman in the fall.
Butler picked the Hokies over Auburn and Florida, the other two schools in his final three. Butler also had offers from Oregon, Alabama, Indiana, and a host of others.

Butler said head coach James Franklin played a big role in him choosing the Hokies.
“What excites me about the future under Coach Franklin is the development, because I know he can do some great things with this program and bring it back to where it used to be,” Butler said, per Steve Wiltfong of On3/Rivals.
Butler is Virginia Tech’s 11th commitment for the 2027 class, and the fourth from Maryland. He’s already the third commitment this month, and the 10th since April 3.
After Butler’s commitment, Virginia Tech ranks No. 15 nationally in 247Sports’ team recruiting rankings for 2027.
Welcome home, Elijah.
