Since Jedd Fisch took over in January 2024, the Washington Huskies have had a lot of success on the recruiting trail along the offensive line, thanks in large part to position coach Michael Switzer.
Now, the Huskies have their sights set on the nation’s No. 1 offensive tackle in the 2028 class, Orem High School standout Maui Tonata, after extending an offer to him on Friday. The 6-foot-5, 315-pound recruit is ranked as the No. 8 player in the country by 247Sports and has very quickly become one of the most coveted underclassmen in the nation.

He holds 28 offers, with Alabama, Miami, Michigan, Oregon, Texas A&M, Texas Tech, and many other Big Ten and SEC programs vying for his services.
On film, it’s easy to see why it took him just two years of high school football to rack up such an expansive offer list. Along with his college-ready size, as he’s listed at a similar size to UW’s standout true freshman left tackle Kodi Greene, Tonata is a very impressive athlete in the open field.
While mainly playing right tackle, he displays elite athleticism to pull and get out in open space as a lead blocker on both runs and screen plays, finishing blocks with authority. Those traits also allow him to climb to the second level with ease to combat linebackers and create holes for ball carriers behind him .

As the Huskies continue to hand out offers in 2028, Utah appears to be a hotbed for talent. Fisch’s staff has already extended offers to the top five players in the state, per 247’s rankings, including Tonata’s running mate Mataio Fano, the nation’s No. 2 offensive tackle in the class.
