Why Tyran Stokes’ Jumper Could Determine Kansas’ Ceiling This Season

Could Tyran Stokes’ outside shooting be the differnece for the Jayhawks this season?

The No. 1 recruit in the 2026 class arrives at Kansas as one of the country’s most explosive athletes, capable of bullying defenders on the way to the rim and making highlight-reel plays in transition. But if there’s one part of his game that could determine just how far the Jayhawks go this season, it’s his outside shooting.

Stokes doesn’t have to become an elite three-point shooter overnight. He simply has to make defenses respect him.

Opponents already know what happens if they allow Stokes to get downhill. At 6-foot-7 and nearly 230 pounds, he’s one of the most physically gifted freshmen Bill Self has coached. If defenders begin sagging off him to clog driving lanes, Kansas’ offense could become much easier to defend.

That’s why his development as a perimeter shooter will be one of the biggest storylines this season.
