CARMEL — Indiana Fever wing (and top-shelf 3-point shooter) Sophie Cunningham is open to a potential appearance at All-Star Friday night in Chicago this week.
But she isn’t the one that gets to choose.

“I don’t make any of those decisions,” Cunningham said of participating in the 3-point contest on WNBA All-Star weekend at her youth camp at the Alletto Family Sports Center in Carmel on Sunday. “I don’t even know who makes those decisions but whoever makes them, I would like to know sooner than later because I have plans to be had.
“But I think it would be a cool opportunity if I get chosen. There’s a lot of great shooters in our league that deserve it, so if I’m one of them, awesome, but if I’m not, that’s OK.”

Cunningham is shooting a blistering 43.7% from 3-point range this year (on 4.1 attempts per game), marking her best season from beyond the arc to date.

She is one of three players on the Fever that is shooting more than 40% from 3-point range this season. Aliyah Boston, who heavily worked on her 3-point shot in the offseason, is leading the Fever with a 46.9% mark (2.8 attempts per game), and Kelsey Mitchell is shooting 42.3% (6.5 attempts per game).
The Indiana Fever already have three All-Star representatives in the game with Mitchell, Boston and Caitlin Clark. Cunningham is not an All-Star but that isn’t a requirement for the Friday night festivities; any active player can participate in the skills challenge or 3-point contest.
Cunningham could bring some merriment to the Friday night challenges, too. She recently went viral for pointing her finger at Phoenix Mercury forward DeWanna Bonner during an in-game skirmish, and it’s gotten big enough that all of her campers on Sunday afternoon greeted her with a point.
“I think Sophie would be a great addition to the 3-point contest,” Fever coach Stephanie White said. “Obviously, she’s shooting it at a high clip. She’s certainly entertaining, so it would be great to be able to bring some entertainment into the space as well, but I think she’s positioned herself well enough to get a nod for that, for sure.”

The WNBA has not said when it will announce participants for the skills challenge or 3-point contest.
