The WNBA is headed to the big screen.
Media company Run-A-Muck is developing a new sports romantic comedy movie, Courtside, set against the backdrop of professional women’s basketball. WNBA All-Star Gabby Williams and two-time WNBA champion Sydney Colson will make appearances in the film. Theresa Plaisance, a 2022 WNBA champion who played nine seasons in the league, will join Williams and Colson.
Colson is on deck to executive produce the movie.
The plot of Courtside follows a women’s basketball superstar with championship ambitions. The player’s aspirations are ultimately upended when she falls for her teammate.
“I don’t think I’ve ever said yes to an opportunity faster than I did for Courtside,” Colson said.
“I’m elated to see a new generation of women’s sports films. I can already feel how transformative this movie will be in terms of representation on screen for minorities, queer people, and women’s basketball players and fans alike.”
A release date for the film has yet to be announced.
