After the Indiana Fever took down the Atlanta Dream on Thursday, hopes were high that they would be able to string multiple wins together and defeat the New York Liberty as well in the WNBA Commissioner’s Cup on Saturday. However, Indiana blew a 12-point lead in the third quarter and ended up losing 83-75.

Aliyah Boston didn’t have her best performance, as she finished with 13 points on 6-of-15 shooting. She recorded nine rebounds and three blocks, but she also had a -14 plus-minus rating, highlighting her struggles and limited impact on the game.

To make matters worse for Boston, she is now set to receive a fine from the WNBA after getting her first technical foul of the season against the Liberty.

As Chloe Peterson of the Indianapolis Star and Scott Agness of Fieldhouse Files noted, Boston received a tech at the end of the third quarter. The fourth quarter started with Breanna Stewart taking one technical free throw as a result.

However, it’s not immediately clear why Boston was issued the tech.

Regardless, the WNBA rules state that players receive a $500 fine for each of their first three technical fouls of the season. Boston will have to pay the fine unless the league rescinds the call.

While it’s only Boston’s first technical foul, she will have to be more careful if she wants to avoid further penalties. She will have to pay a $1,000 fine for each of her fourth through seventh technical fouls. Any tech beyond that carries a $1,500 fine and an automatic one-game suspension.
