Yaroslav Amosov Touted as Future UFC Welterweight Champion

by

UFC welterweight contender Yaroslav Amosov is being touted as a future UFC welterweight champion by American Top Team teammate Jorge Masvidal.

Amosov, a former Bellator MMA welterweight champion, made his UFC debut last December and submitted veteran gatekeeper Neil Magny in the first round with an anaconda choke. He then followed that up with an even more impressive performance at UFC 328 when he submitted Joel Alvarez with a second-round arm-triangle choke.

Jorge Masvidal Says Yaroslav Amosov Will Be Future UFC Champ

Speaking on the “Deep Waters” podcast, Amosov’s teammate at ATT, Masvidal, gushed about the 32-year-old Ukrainian native, suggesting he has what it takes to beat UFC welterweight champion Islam Makhachev.

“He’s a bad fight for everybody. Even Makhachev, all the way down to No. 10, Yaroslav is that good. He’s a bad fight for all these guys,” Masvidal said (via MMAjunkie.com).

“Nightmare for Makhachev. Bigger, longer, and I’m going to say probably stronger, as well, and his wrestling. He’s also, I think, a two-time world champion in Sambo, something like this. So, he’s going to be all right with the body locks, the foot sweeps, the in-close fighting that Makhachev does. Yaroslav will be able to outshine him probably.”
