Yaxel Lendeborg admitted he was caught off guard after hearing Draymond Green suggest he planned to keep the Warriors rookie in check.
Speaking with Ron Kroichick of The San Francisco Chronicle, Lendeborg reacted to comments Green made on his podcast, where the veteran forward joked that he wanted to “rein in the rookie a little bit” after Lendeborg’s attempt to recruit LeBron James during a live-stream interview.
The first-round pick confessed that Green’s remarks left him wondering exactly what the four-time NBA champion had in mind.
“I got a little nervous,” Lendeborg said with a laugh. “I don’t know what he’s talking about, man. He could be hinting at a lot of different things.”
Lendeborg jokingly admitted he hopes Green wasn’t referring to the traditional rookie treatment that often takes place around NBA teams.
“Hopefully it’s not the (rookie) hazing – I hope we keep that at a minimum,” he said.
Instead, the 23-year-old is hoping Green simply plans to mentor him as he begins his NBA career.
“I hope it’s just like, ‘Yeah, I got you. This is what you should and shouldn’t do.’ So I’m a little worried, but hopefully everything goes well.”
Yaxel Lendeborg believes his play during Summer League has only been average. https://t.co/TajEcgK7vk
