The relationship between Caitlin Clark and Indiana Fever head coach Stephanie White has mostly been talked about in a positive light.
But ever since what happened on the sideline on May 30, people have been asking real questions about their relationship, respect, and where things actually stand between them. Now, two WNBA legends have come forward and said what a lot of people were already thinking.

Two WNBA Legends’ Recent Comment Regarding Caitlin Clark
During a recent segment on WNBA on Prime, former WNBA player Tamera Young talked about Clark’s body language during that May 30 incident and said it was a bit concerning.
According to her, Clark can say all she wants about how much she respects and loves her coach, but what the cameras showed that night told a different story.
“We see the body language, and with Caitlin being the head of the snake, you have to be coachable, and your body language shows, and that’s what we saw. You can say I love my coach and everything is great, but the body language wasn’t showing that, and, as former players, we know that is a big thing,” the former WNBA player said.

Moreover, three-time WNBA champion Swin Cash, who was also on the show, went even further. Cash stated that the body language of the entire Fever team looked off.
“I’ll take it a step further, Ty, that not only the body language, it’s the response because we’ve been in those pressure-cooker situations where your coach is getting on you. But once you see the look in their eyes when they are fired up, then you have to make a decision as a player: Am I respecting what they are saying?”
“I think their team as a whole, it’s just the body language across any game they are down. That’s the one thing I have seen, is that they lack the composure to be able to take that next step and get out of it,” Cash said.
The incident that sparked the conversation took place during the second quarter of Indiana’s May 30 matchup against Portland Fire.

During a timeout, cameras caught White and Clark having an animated discussion on the bench. White appeared to be explaining something while gesturing toward her knee, while Clark responded with visible frustration. She threw up her hands and shook her head.
Moments later, White sent rookie Raven Johnson into the game in Clark’s place. The clip quickly spread across social media and became one of the most talked-about moments from the night.

After the game, a section of fans on social media even speculated that Clark could face some kind of internal discipline from the Fever organization. That never happened. White herself addressed the situation in her post-game interview, brushing off any suggestion of a serious problem.

“I think what happened in that moment is I was challenging a player. It’s coaching, is what it is. I don’t think it often becomes an issue if you’re watching it in men’s sports most of the time. But my relationship with Caitlin is great. I love Caitlin. I ride with her,” White said after the game.
Clark also had a difficult night on the court against Portland. She finished with just six points in 22 minutes and shot 1-of-7 from the field. While she contributed six assists, two rebounds, and a steal, foul trouble prevented her from finding any rhythm. She picked up her third foul before halftime and added two more in the third quarter. That significantly limited her impact.
However, in Indiana’s most recent game, Clark responded with a much stronger performance as she scored 17 points while adding seven rebounds and eight assists in 31 minutes as the Fever defeated Atlanta 83-71.
So, while Young and Cash have genuine concerns about what they saw, there is also another way to look at it. What happened on May 30 could simply have been a moment of frustration in the middle of a tough game.
