WNBA 3-Point Contest rules

The WNBA 3-Point Contest is a two-round, timed shooting competition featuring ball racks positioned at five locations around the three-point arc.

  • Six players compete in the opening round.

  • Four racks contain four standard game balls worth one point each and one money ball worth two points.

  • The fifth rack is an all-money-ball rack, with all five shots worth two points. Each player chooses where to place this rack around the arc.

  • Two “From the Logo” balls are positioned on separate pedestals beyond the three-point line. Each made shot is worth three points.

  • The two players with the highest scores in the opening round advance to the championship round.

  • The player with the highest score in the championship round wins the WNBA 3-Point Contest.

Success isn’t just about being the league’s best shooter. Contestants must decide where to place their all-money-ball rack while balancing speed, rhythm, and the decision of when to attempt the two high-value “From the Logo” shots.

WNBA 3-Point Contest participants

Azzi Fudd (+245)

Fudd enters as the favorite despite being the only rookie in the field. She has connected on 38.7% of her shots from beyond the arc and owns one of the cleanest releases in the league.

She’ll also enter the All-Star break shooting with confidence, knocking down 15 of her last 35 attempts (42.9%) from deep over her last five games.

The question is whether her smooth shooting mechanics are enough to overcome a lack of experience in this particular setting. Fudd will not see a defender all night, but moving quickly between racks and maintaining the same release under a time limit presents a different challenge than an ordinary catch-and-shoot opportunity.

Marina Mabrey (+317)

Mabrey has the strongest combination of volume and efficiency in the field, averaging 3.3 made threes per game while shooting 39.2% from beyond the arc.

She has also tied the WNBA single-game record with nine made threes twice this season, showing the kind of ceiling required to put together a massive round. Mabrey has previously competed in this event, and that experience makes her difficult to ignore near the top of the board.

She’s also entering the All-Star break in solid form, knocking down 15 of 38 attempts (39.5%) over her last five games.

Janelle Salaun (+669)

Salaun owns the best three-point percentage among the six contestants, connecting on 39.4% of her attempts while making 2.5 triples per game.

More importantly, she’ll enter the All-Star break as the hottest shooter in the field, converting 14 of her last 27 attempts (51.9%) from beyond the arc over her last five games.

Her combination of size, balance, and a repeatable release makes her an intriguing option in the middle of the board. She may not generate the same betting attention as Fudd or Mabrey, but her regular-season numbers and recent form suggest there is very little separating the top half of this field.

Rhyne Howard (+669)

Howard is second among the contestants with 3.2 made threes per game, although her 35.4% conversion rate is lower than most of the field.

She’ll enter the All-Star break on a bit of a cold streak, connecting on 12 of her last 41 attempts (29.3%) from beyond the arc over her last five games.

That percentage does not fully capture the difficulty or volume of the shots she attempts during games. Howard regularly creates her own looks and is comfortable shooting well behind the line, which should help when she steps back for the three-point deep-range balls. She also has previous contest experience.

Bridget Carleton (+669)

Carleton has quietly developed into one of the WNBA’s most dependable perimeter threats, averaging 2.6 made threes per game on 37.4% shooting.

She’s quietly entering the All-Star break in excellent form as well, hitting 16 of her last 39 attempts (41.0%) from beyond the arc over her last five games.

She does not need much movement in her lower body to generate power, and that compact release could help her avoid tiring late in a round. At +500, Carleton offers a compelling statistical profile without requiring bettors to pay the shorter price attached to the favorites.

Natisha Hiedeman (+1011)

Hiedeman is the clear long shot at +800 after shooting 34.3% from three this season, but no player should be completely dismissed in a two-round shooting competition.

She’ll enter the All-Star break searching for her shot after making just five of her last 28 attempts (17.9%) from beyond the arc over her last five games.

She is still averaging two made threes per game and needs only one strong opening round to advance. However, both her season-long numbers and recent form give her less margin for error than the other five contestants, making the price understandable.

Why I’m backing Janelle Salaun

+669 at Kalshi

Salaun owns the best three-point percentage among the six contestants, connecting on 39.4% of her attempts while making 2.5 triples per game.

More importantly, she’ll enter the All-Star break as the hottest shooter in the field, converting 14 of her last 27 attempts (51.9%) from beyond the arc over her last five games.

Three-point contests are all about rhythm, and no one enters this event with more of it than Salaun. Her compact release and consistent mechanics should translate well to a timed shooting competition, while her ability to get into a groove makes her an ideal fit for the all-money-ball rack. At +450, I’m getting the hottest shooter in the field at longer odds than both Azzi Fudd and Marina Mabrey. That’s a price I’m more than willing to back.
