At one point, the Oregon Ducks appeared to be leading the recruiting race for four-star running back Javian Jones-Priest. Now that the star runner from Arlington, Texas, is set to commit, the Ducks have a battle on their hands.
Jones-Priest announced that he will commit to one of his seven finalists on May 19. Oregon will have a hat on the table alongside Oklahoma State, Virginia Tech, Northwestern, TCU, SMU and Florida. Jones-Priest is the No. 254 player in the 2027 class and the No. 18 running back, per Rivals. He has already taken official visits to Northwestern and Virginia Tech.
His trip to Blacksburg made a huge impression, and the Hokies have vaulted to the top of the recruitment for Jones-Priest. He made an early trip to Blacksburg and was the program’s first official visitor of the cycle, and James Franklin’s staff went all out. Rivals recruiting expert Sam Spiegelman placed a prediction on Virginia Tech to land the running back out of Texas.

Initially, the battle appeared to be between Oregon and TCU. Ra’Shaad Samples has built a strong relationship with Jones-Priest, bringing him on campus twice this offseason. His father, Rafael Priest, played defensive back at TCU from 2005-2009, and the Horned Frogs extended an offer to the next generation earlier in the spring.
Jones-Priest ran for 1,154 yards and 12 touchdowns as a junior at James Martin High School, and his stock is only expected to rise heading into his senior season. The Ducks already have a commitment from four-star running back CaDarius McMiller in their 2027 class, but Jones-Priest would be another welcome addition.
Oregon has an official visit scheduled for Jones-Priest on June 5, but if he commits elsewhere, those plans could be tossed in the air. The Ducks would definitely like to get him back on campus again, even if he doesn’t commit to them on Tuesday.
