Notre Dame isn’t backing down from the challenge of replenishing its basketball roster after 6 departures. Notre Dame is very active and intentional in the transfer portal right now, and on Thursday the Irish announced the addition of Ethan Roberts from Penn in the Ivy League.
6-5 guard/forward from Penn will bring NCAA Tournament experience
SOUTH BEND, Ind. – Ethan Roberts, a 6-5 guard/forward graduate transfer from Penn, will officially don the Blue & Gold next season. Roberts brings NCAA Tournament experience, having helped Penn qualify for the Big Dance last season. Penn went 18-12 overall before bowing out to Illinois in the First Round.
The Arlington Heights, Illinois, native boasted the best scoring average on the team at 16.9 ppg. The Second-Team All-Ivy honoree ranked 4th in the league in scoring, 6th in free-throw percentage, 8th in three-point shooting percentage, 13th in threes/game (1.7) and 13th in steals/game (1.0).
“Ethan is going to be a great addition to our program. He’s a good shooter, but also can score in different ways. He’ll bring some added versatility to our team on the offensive end. He’s also a great teammate who will add more leadership, competitiveness, & toughness to our group,” Glenn & Stacey Murphy Head Coach Micah Shrewsberry stated.
Going more in depth, Roberts posted a solid shooting split of 40.1% / 40.4% / 79.9%. He scored in double figures 19 times in his 23 appearances, including a team-high eight 20-point games. He also posted two 30-point games with 31 vs. Saint Joseph’s and 30 at Drexel.
Roberts has played a total of three seasons, two at Penn and one at Army. He’s totaled 1,217 points over his career, averaging 15.0 ppg on 43.5% shooting from the field, 39.2% from three and 81.9% from the stripe.
