Ex-UFC champ: Tom Aspinall would ‘get tortured’ by Gable Steveson

Tyron Woodley thinks Gable Steveson gives UFC heavyweight champion Tom Aspinall a run for his money – from now.

2020 Olympic freestyle heavyweight gold medalist Steveson (3-0) inked a UFC deal after just three professional MMA fights. The 25-year-old makes his promotional debut at UFC 329 on July 11 at International Fight Week from T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, but an opponent is yet to be announced.

Many are touting Steveson to be a future champion after being under the guidance of UFC great Jon Jones, but Woodley sees that potential in him from now.

“Gable Stevenson will become heavyweight champion,” Woodley said in an interview with TalkSPORT BET. “He can do it this year if he wants to. Tom Aspinall will get tortured by Gable right now. Tom looked sloppy against Ciryl Gane before he got poked in the eye.

“Gable has got powerful hands. All his fights are finishes. He has crazy wrestling, crazy athletic ability. He’s hungry. You think he’s still happy about losing the NCAA championship in the last three seconds? Hell no. I don’t see a matchup in the UFC now at heavyweight that he does not win.”

Before he makes his octagon debut, Steveson will take on UFC veteran Alexandr Romanov at RAF 09 on May 30 at College Park Center in Arlington, Texas. The event will stream on FOX Nation.
