Texas A&M’s recruiting success in the 2027 cycle truly began after landing early commitments from four-star quarterback Jayce Johnson, four-star offensive tackle DeMarion Johnson, and four-star safety JayQuan Snell, who the Aggies are hoping to lock down for good during his official visit to College Station on June 12.
However, according to AggieYell insider Jaxson Callaway, coach Mike Elko and his staff are looking to get Snell back on campus before his OV, while the incoming Waxahachie (TX) senior is also being heavily pursued by Texas, Texas Tech, and the Miami Hurricanes.

Already landing commitments from five-star cornerback Raylaun Henry and five-star safety Kamrui Dorsey, who are considered “hard” commits that plan to sign with the program in early December, JayQuan Snell, along with several other blue-chip 2027 prospects, have become the Aggies’ primary offseason priority heading into the summer.
Standing 6’3″ and 195 pounds, how Snell will be utilized in Mike Elko’s defense is still up in the air, but similar to current senior starting safety Marcus Ratcliffe, playing Snell at strong safety and or boundary safety on the short side of the field looks like the perfect fit for his physical, hard-hitting play style, especially against the run.
This week, Dave Campbell’s Texas Football released its Top 10 Texas High School Safety Prospects, with JayQuan Snell coming in at No. 1, followed by Ohio State commit Eli Johnson, and Texas commit Karnell “Greedy” James. Snell finished his 2025 junior season with 60 tackles, four TFLs, and five PBUs, and earned First-Team All-District Honors.
