The Nebraska men’s basketball team added another transfer player to its roster. Sam Orme joins the Huskers after playing for Belmont last season.

The power forward played in 29 games and helped Belmont win the regular-season Missouri Valley Conference title. He was second-team All-MVC with 12.7 points, 5.0 rebounds and 1.8 assists per game.

The Indiana native ranked fifth in the MVC in both field goal percentage (.559) and 3-point percentage (.397) while also finishing among the MVC leaders in scoring (15th), rebounding (16th) and 3-pointers per game (11th).

The sophomore from Carmel, Indiana, should fit nicely in Fred Hoiberg’s offense. He stands at six feet nine inches, 220 pounds. Hoiberg is excited about the skillset the power forward brings to the offense.

“Sam is a player we targeted early in the process because he has a skillset that can flourish in our system, 6-foot-9, he has the size to score inside and can stretch the floor as he shot nearly 40 percent from 3-point range last year at a high volume. Defensively, he has the length to guard multiple positions and is active in getting his hands in passing lanes. He comes from a winning program, has a high basketball IQ and gives us a player we can build around over the next two seasons.”

Orme played at Carmel High School, averaging 18.0 points per game on 54 percent shooting, 7.6 rebounds and 3.0 assists per game. He was selected to the prestigious Indiana-Kentucky All-Star Game and was named to the Indiana Basketball Coaches Association ‘Supreme 15’ All-State team.
