It was a busy and interesting recruiting weekend for the Oklahoma Sooners. First, OU saw wide receiver pledge Demare Dezeurn decommit, as the two parties decided to part ways. Dezeurn has since committed to Cal. Then, the Sooners saw wide receiver pledge Tra’Von Hall decommit and flip to Ole Miss later that same day.
Those moves leave the Sooners with just one wide receiver commit in the ’27 cycle in Greydon Howell. They also put OU’s number of decommitments for 2027 at four, to go along with Oregon DL pledge Zane Rowe and Cal RB pledge Jaxsen Stokes.

However, Oklahoma did manage to add one player to their class this weekend who is flying way under the radar at a key position.
Lawton (Oklahoma) High School quarterback Noah Smith was on campus this past weekend, received an offer from the Sooners, and committed to OU’s 2027 class in short order. Smith is an unrated and unranked prospect, and Oklahoma is currently his only Division I offer. He’ll walk on at Oklahoma.
Smith stands at 6-foot-3 and weighs in at 210 pounds. He joins Oklahoma’s much more heralded pledge in the class, four-star passer Jamison Roberts, as the second QB to commit to the Sooners during this cycle.

Of course, Roberts is still the player that head coach Brent Venables and offensive coordinator Ben Arbuckle are extremely excited about joining the Sooners, and he’s still OU’s top priority at QB this cycle. However, Smith will be able to come along as well, and add depth at a position where you always need it.
Smith is still a virtual unknown in the recruiting world, but he obviously impressed the Sooners enough in person this weekend to make them want to bring the local product on board.
The Sooners also had another player with ties to the state of Oklahoma on campus this past weekend, this one from the 2028 class. Offensive lineman Jace Montgomery is a three-star prospect, according to Rivals, who OU has been sniffing around lately. He’s an interior OL from Archbishop Moeller High School in Cincinnati, Ohio.
Montgomery is the son of former OU defensive line coach Jerry Montgomery, who coached for the Sooners in 2013 and 2014. The elder Montgomery was promoted to co-defensive coordinator after the 2014 season, but instead took a job with the NFL’s Green Bay Packers after his two years in Norman. He now coaches the defensive line for the NFL’s Cincinnati Bengals.
The younger Montgomery has taken a number of visits to Power Four schools, including multiple trips to Wisconsin and Iowa. Though his father never coached under Venables, perhaps OU can turn those Sooner ties into a win in the 2028 cycle.

As for Oklahoma’s 2027 class, it certainly took a couple of hits this weekend, but it’s still an excellent group, especially with the recent additions of RB Jakoby Dixon and DB Gabriel Osborne Jr. to the commit list. Rivals currently has OU as the third-best class in the country, while 247Sports ranks OU’s class as the second-best in the nation at this time.
