The market for New Orleans Pelicans forward Trey Murphy III is expanding, with the Los Angeles Clippers and Brooklyn Nets reportedly among the teams viewed as being near the front of the race for the 25-year-old wing.
Speaking on KNBR 680’s “Murph & Markus,” The Athletic’s Sam Amick said the Warriors do not appear confident about their chances of landing Murphy, despite Golden State’s need for more two-way wing talent.
“There is definitely a bunch of Trey Murphy noise,” Amick said, via NBC Sports Bay Area. “It seems pretty clear that he has also signaled a desire to play elsewhere. The market is going to be pretty robust.”
Amick added that Brooklyn and Los Angeles have been mentioned as teams “out front” in pursuit of Murphy, while noting that the list of interested teams remains extensive. Detroit and Boston are also reportedly monitoring the situation, with the Celtics viewing Murphy as a possible alternative if they failed to acquire another star target.
Murphy’s availability comes after New Orleans became more willing to explore offers under its new front office leadership. The Pelicans are not simply looking to move the former first-round pick, however, as rival teams expect the asking price to include significant draft capital, prospects and an NBA rotation player.
Murphy is coming off a strong 2025-26 season, averaging 21.5 points, 5.7 rebounds and 3.8 assists in 66 games while starting every contest. He shot 47.0% from the field, made 37.9% of his 8.6 three-point attempts per game and converted 88.6% of his free throws.
His combination of size, shooting and age has made him one of the most attractive wing targets on the trade market. Murphy is under contract for three more seasons after signing a four-year, $112 million extension, giving any acquiring team long-term control rather than a short-term rental.
