Tom Aspinall ‘back in full training’ UFC title fight

by

Tom Aspinall finally has shared some good news. He’s back – well, at least in training.

On Thursday, Aspinall (15-3 MMA, 8-1 UFC) revealed he is activating at full capacity in the gym and he has his sights set on a rematch against UFC heavyweight interim champion Ciryl Gane.

“Back in full training for the Ciryl Gane fight and we’re currently in talks with the UFC,” Aspinall wrote on X.

It’s been a rough eight months for the UFC heavyweight champion. His October title fight vs. Gane ended early in Round 1 after he was poked in the eye, resulting in a no contest. He suffered a relatively significant injury from the gouge – one that did not heal as fast as he’d hoped, even with treatment.

His delay garnered criticism from fans and a debated slight from UFC CEO Dana White.

Aspinall has since signed with White’s rival boxing promoter Eddie Hearn, who will manage his business dealings. It remains to be seen if Hearn and the UFC can squash the beef and negotiate agreeable terms – something that should come to light in the next couple weeks to months.
