We’ve reached the point of the offseason where Texas A&M’s 2026 schedule is being dissected by a wide range of national analysts, now including That SEC Podcast host Michael Bratton, who caused some controversy after predicting that the Texas Longhorns would finish the season with a shocking 6-6 record, including a road loss to the Aggies at the end of the regular season.
While I highly doubt the Longhorns will finish with less than nine or ten wins this fall, Texas A&M’s outlook is much more difficult to predict given the offseason changes after a record 10 players were selected in the 2026 NFL Draft, while third-year coach Mike Elko and his staff landed 17 players from the transfer portal, combined with 26 signees from the 2026 recruiting class.

However, the Aggies return 65% of the 2025 roster, led by starting quarterback Marcel Reed, who is entering his second full starting season after passing for a career-high 3,169 yards, 25 touchdowns and 12 interceptions, and is wholly focused on improving his accuracy, touch, and avoiding mental mistakes, which was detailed during his interview with On3 writer Pete Nakos.
Texas A&M’s deep secondary and revamped defensive line look like the program’s primary strengths, while the offensive line, featuring four new starters, will be the unit to watch, and third-year O-line Adam Cushing’s toughest challenge to date. If the new group finds a rhythm early in the season, the Aggies’ deep wide receiver rotation, led by junior Mario Craver, and now including Alabama transfer Isaiah Horton, provides Marcel Reed plenty of firepower through the air.
For Michael Bratton, Texas A&M will begin the season at 10-0 before losing its last two games vs. Oklahoma on the road and Texas at home, which would all but secure a College Football Playoff berth, but would not excite the fan base if the Aggies lose to Texas for the third consecutive year.
I myself believe Texas A&M is on the path to finish 10-2 or 9-3 at worst, but that will take more consistent play from Marcel Reed and improvement from the run defense, which was gashed in both losses to Texas and Miami in the CFP last season. More importantly, new OC Holmon Wiggins wants a balanced offense, which will require the O-line to improve as a run blocking unit, and running back Ruben Owens and Jamarion Morrow to become a reliable 1-2 punch.
