Former WNBA star and current basketball analyst Rebecca Lobo thinks that the All-Star Game voting should be positionless.
The 2026 WNBA All-Star in Chicago on July 25 is just around the corner, and the second round of fan voting was revealed on Thursday. Indiana Fever stars Aliyah Boston and Caitlin Clark are currently leading the pack as the top two vote-getters.

But for Lobo, the voting system should not be limited to players’ positions alone.
In a recent post on X, the women’s basketball Hall of Famer stated that this voting system is already out-of-date.
“Why do we have to vote for All Star based on position anyway? They finally made it positionless for All First and Second Team selection. All Star needs to be next,” Lobo wrote.
Fans will have the opportunity to vote for the starters of both teams. However, under the current voting system, these players are assigned to their designated positions as guards or frontcourt players. This will limit opportunities for other players in the same position, and Lobo has raised her concern over this supposedly outdated rule.

Apart from Boston and Clark, the current top vote-getters are A’ja Wilson of the Las Vegas Aces, Paige Bueckers of the Dallas Wings and Breana Stewart of the New York Liberty.
For her part, Lobo made one All-Star appearance during her seven-year WNBA career. She Suited up for three teams: the Liberty, the Houston Commets and the Connecticut Sun.
Lobo retired in 2003 but has remained connected to the game over the past two decades.
