Is Texas A&M becoming one of college football’s best coaching jobs?

College football may be the most popular sport in America, and even though NIL and the transfer portal have frustrated some fans, the sport continues to set attendance records. With that level of interest comes sky-high expectations, and universities are spending more than ever on coaches, facilities, and recruiting infrastructure. Texas A&M is right there with the elite of the elite.

In the landscape of true blue bloods, the Aggies sit just outside the inner circle, but everything needed for a championship-caliber program is already in place. The facilities are among the best in the nation, the NIL backing can compete with anyone, and the fan base is one of the most passionate and financially committed in college football. Across multiple sports, Texas A&M is considered a premier job, but football is king, and A&M remains one of the sport’s great sleeping giants.

That combination is why the program consistently appears near the top of national job rankings. Football analyst John Kurtz recently released his top ten coaching jobs in the sport and offered detailed reasoning for each spot. Texas A&M landed at number eight and was one of four SEC programs to make the list. His explanation centered on one thing, money, and the Aggies willingness to use it.

“It’s a fan base that wants it badly, right? And that helps with the money. Not only do they have guys who have a lot of money, but they are very eager to give that money because they want to win worse than about anybody in the country.”

“You succeed and you succeed big like you could be the guy here. And also I would say this is a job that we could look back in five years depending on what Elko does and say, “Hey, this is now a top five job.”

Kurtz’s points are hard to argue with. Texas A&M has every structural advantage needed to take the next step, and whether the program climbs into that true top-five tier will depend on what Mike Elko builds in the coming years.
