Collin Klein served as Texas A&M’s offensive coordinator during the 2024 and 2025 seasons, quickly becoming one of the top head coach candidates after the Aggie offense averaged over 30 points per game, while starting quarterback Marcel Reed threw for a career-high 3,169 yards, 25 touchdowns, and 12 interceptions during his first full starting season last fall.
After Chris Klieman retired from his post at Kansas State, where Collin Klein starred for four seasons, becoming a Heisman Trophy finalist after the 2012 season, the Wildcats made Klein their No. 1 option, heavily pursuing the Aggie playcaller, and making things official just weeks before Texas A&M hosted Miami in the first round of the College Football Playoff.

Coach Mike Elko was fully prepared for Klein’s eventual departure, interviewing a host of candidates, but similar to several of his previous staff moves, the third-year head coach elevated wide receivers coach Holmon Wiggins, who, before heading to College Station, served as Alabama‘s WR coach and assistant head coach under Nick Saban from 2019 to 2023.
Wiggins has not called offensive plays during his lengthy career, but was co-offensive coordinator during his last two seasons in College Station under Collin Klein, and will likely implement a bulk of Klein’s scheme, while placing a heavier emphasis on the run game.
It’s hard to say what Wiggins’ offense will look like, especially if he’ll utilize heavy tight end packages, but given the elite talent at wide receiver and a running back room featuring redshirt junior Rueben Owens and rising sophomore Jamarion Morrow, Marcel Reed’s duel-threat skill set should result in a smooth transition for Wiggins.
Among the rest of the SEC, Athlon’s Steven Lassan’s preseason preview now includes his SEC offensive coordinator rankings, and among a veteran group, Holmon Wiggins came in at No. 15, while former Georgia Tech and new Florida OC Buster Faulkner came in at No. 2, and Alabama OC Ryan Grubb came in first overall, which can certainly be debated.
