Washington football eyeing promising local athlete in 2027 class

by

With three-star cornerback Evan Mack off the board, Jedd Fisch and the Washington Huskies coaching staff are looking for one more big, long defensive back to add to their 2027 recruiting class, and they happen to have a prototypical prospect in their backyard in three-star athlete J’Isaiah Mitchell.

The 6-foot-5, 180-pound product of in-state Puyallup High School, who received an offer from secondary coach John Richardson in late June, also holds an offer from the Huskies at wide receiver; however, there doesn’t appear to be a fit on Montlake at the position, since wide receivers coach Kevin Cummings already holds four pledges at the position.

Mitchell, who is ranked as the nation’s No. 845 overall prospect and No. 62 athlete by the 247Sports Composite, wound up making a commitment to Boise State to play receiver, but the Huskies could make a late charge ahead of signing day in an attempt to keep him in Washington.
