Jersey No. 59 dates to 1937 for the Vols. Allen Ramsey was the first player in program history to wear No. 59 in 1937.

Former Vols to wear No. 59 during national championship seasons were Jim Bates (1967), Bob Ball (1951), Eugene Young (1940) and Calvin Sexton (1938).
