Swimming Canada Names 44 Swimmers for Pan Pacs, 20 for Para Pan Pacs
Swimming Canada has named a 44-swimmer roster for this summer’s Pan Pacific Championships, after the conclusion of Bell Canadian Trials.
Summer McIntosh and Taylor Ruck will lead the 20 women and 22 men at the August meet in Irvine, Calif. That group is a mix of veterans and youth, with mainstays Kylie Masse and Josh Liendo among the absences.
McIntosh set the world record in the 200 butterfly and won the 400 individual medley last week in Montreal before withdrawing from trials due to illness. Mary-Sophie Harvey, who also withdrew due to illness, is also included in the roster. Ruck won five events in five nights over three strokes, setting a lifetime best and some of her best times overall since 2019.
“This team reflects the incredible depth and momentum we have built across our high-performance program,” said John Atkinson, Swimming Canada’s high performance director and national coach, in a press release. “We have a great balance of experienced international performers and emerging athletes who have earned this opportunity through outstanding performances at our Trials. The Pan Pacific Championships will provide an important opportunity for our swimmers to test themselves against some of the best in the world as we continue building toward LA 2028.”
Swimming Canada will also send 20 athletes to Para Pan Pacs in Walnut, Calif., Aug. 28-30. Aurelie Ricard is one of five Paralympic medalists in the squad.
