The WNBA suspended Keaton from attending Seattle’s next five home games and issued an undisclosed fine following an incident during Tuesday’s game between the Storm and Indiana Fever at Climate Pledge Arena. The league confirmed the punishment after the fans accused Keaton of confronting them and using profanity.

The two girls attended the game wearing matching XX-XY Athletics shirts and carrying signs that read, “Thank you, Sophie, for speaking up for girls.”

Their message referenced Cunningham’s recent comments opposing transgender women competing in women’s sports.

According to an interview shared by Seattle podcast host Brandi Kruse, Keaton approached the girls during the game and allegedly called them “f—ing insane” before telling them to stop. One of the girls was reportedly left in tears after the exchange.

Cunningham condemned the alleged behavior while stressing that disagreement should never prevent people from treating each other with kindness.

“I truly believe there is a safe space and love for EVERYBODY,” Cunningham wrote on social media. “Biological girls, biological boys, trans women, and trans men. Everyone is welcome at my table! You can disagree and still be kind.”
