The Golden State Warriors have largely kept their roster intact this summer, following general manager Mike Dunleavy Jr.’s earlier suggestion that major changes might not be necessary.
Speaking after Steve Kerr agreed to return on a new two-year contract, Dunleavy argued that Golden State’s disappointing 37-45 season was driven more by injuries and avoidable mistakes than a lack of talent.
“This isn’t about the roster frankly,” Dunleavy said.
“This year, I don’t think we came up short because of the talent on the roster. It was injuries and things we can control. Do we need to get better roster-wise? I think so. But we didn’t get to a point where we played a team that the roster was better than ours.”
Dunleavy had also repeatedly expressed confidence that the Warriors could retain veteran players Draymond Green, Al Horford and Kristaps Porzingis in free agency.
Golden State ultimately brought back all three.
The Warriors also re-signed De’Anthony Melton, Gary Payton II and Charles Bassey, emphasizing continuity rather than significantly reshaping the roster.
So far, Golden State’s only new addition on a standard contract is Yaxel Lendeborg, whom the franchise selected with the No. 11 overall pick in the 2026 NBA Draft.
