Former NBA player Royce White continued to make headlines after saying he had qualified for the WNBA draft, discussing his gender identity and desire to play in the league during a national television appearance.
“I’m just having a blast in my feminine era. I never thought that I was a woman,” White said.
White then suggested he should be given an opportunity to compete in the WNBA as he approaches the later stages of his basketball career.
“I think it’s only fair I get a chance to play with some of my queens here in the twilight of my career, my athletic prime!”
He also explained how he now describes his gender identity, saying his perspective had changed after reconsidering his personal preferences.
“You know, I’ve always trusted the science and I thought I was a man my entire life, but you know, after further review and strong look at my personal preferences – it would appear that that I am indeed sometimes identifying as a transgender woman.”
